Welcome to the Briar Woods HS PTSO!

We are an organization of parents and volunteers working hard to support our teachers, staff and students which makes for a strong community.

What does the PTSO provide?

At the beginning of each school year,  the PTSO board sets a budget for educational and school requests that we get throughout the year. We provide support to teachers via a classroom reimbursement up to $75, and we also consider larger projects under our Education Grant  program.

During the last school year, because of your generosity, the PTSO poured over $30,000 back into the school for things like:

  • Robotics equipment

  • 1 classroom set of Raspberry Pi computers

  • 2 classroom sets of TI-84 Plus graphing calculators

  • Vernier sensors for LabQuest equipment purchased last year

  • Classroom sets of contemporary books for the English Department

  • DNA kits for science lessons

  • Fossil kits and portable dissolved oxygen meters for Enviro Science

  • Compost bins

  • 3-D Printer and vinyl cutter

  • Fully catered back-to-school luncheon

  • A week long event for Staff Appreciation week including fully catered lunch, massages, smoothies delivered to the classrooms

  • DECA/FBLA Nationals registration fees

  • 10 new multi-purpose tables for the school to use at events

  • Large event tents for SCA and the school to use

  • Senior BBQ send-off

  • $75 Classroom teacher reimbursements

  • New microwaves for the cafeteria

  • Tables for alternative classroom seating

  • Speaker fees for Rachel Bailey

  • $5,000 in scholarships awarded to students who apply and are selected

How do we fundraise?

We fundraise through membership fees, donations, Kaplan Prep class and practice test fees, and Amazon Smile and linking your Harris Teeter VIC card to the TIE program that gives back to schools on purchases made. That's it. We try to keep it simple since all of us are truly stretched for time, talent and treasure.

Please consider how you can help the PTSO this year whether its financially  or volunteering for large events like our holiday cookie event or Teacher Appreciation week.  We also encourage you to attend a meeting as we love to hear new ideas and are looking for new board members to backfill some positions next year. Your help no matter how big or small DOES make a difference!

All the best for a great school year!
