Welcome to the Briar Woods PTSO!

We are an organization of parents and volunteers working hard to support our teachers, staff and students which makes for a strong school community.

What does the PTSO provide?

At the beginning of each school year,  the PTSO board sets a budget for the educational and school requests that we get throughout the year. We provide support to teachers via a Classroom Reimbursement of up to $75, and we also consider larger projects under our Education Grant program.

In prior years, because of your generosity, the PTSO has been able to provide:

  • Robotics equipment

  • 1 classroom set of Raspberry Pi computers

  • 2 classroom sets of TI-84 Plus graphing calculators

  • Vernier sensors for LabQuest equipment

  • Classroom sets of contemporary books for the English Department

  • DNA kits for science lessons

  • Fossil kits and portable dissolved oxygen meters for Enviro Science

  • Compost bins

  • 3-D Printer and vinyl cutter

  • Back-to-school luncheon for all staff

  • DECA/FBLA Nationals registration fees

  • 10 new multi-purpose tables for the school to use at events

  • Large event tents for Student Council and the school to use

  • Senior BBQ at year-end

  • $75 Classroom teacher reimbursements

  • New microwaves for the cafeteria

  • Tables for alternative classroom seating

  • Teacher Appreciation Week

  • Speaker fees for Rachel Bailey, Motivation Coach

  • Scholarships awarded to Briar Woods students

How do we fundraise?

We raise funds through membership fees, donations, Kaplan Prep class and practice test fees, and Amazon Smile and linking your Harris Teeter VIC card to the Together in Education (TIE) program that gives back to schools on purchases made.

That's it. We try to keep it simple since all of us are truly stretched for time, talent and treasure.

The Kaplan prep classes and practice tests are currently on hold due to school facilities remaining closed.  These events have traditionally been a big fundraiser, but will be diminished this year.  As an organization, we will be relying much more on membership fees!

How can you participate?

Once schools open, we will have opportunities for volunteering at school events!  We have traditionally held a Staff Holiday Cookie event, Teacher Appreciation Week and Senior Breakfasts.   If you don't have time, we always welcome food and supply donations too!

We also encourage you to attend a meeting as we love to hear new ideas and it's a great way to keep involved at Briar Woods.  Check out our Meeting Dates page for more information and to find the Zoom link for a meeting.

You can always follow us on Facebook  @bwhsptso and Twitter @BWHS_PTSO to learn what's going on at Briar Woods!

Please consider how you can help the PTSO this year whether its financially  or with your time and talent. Your help no matter how big or small DOES make a difference!

All the best for a great 2020-2021 school year!
